Everything You Need To Know About Composite Fencing

Whilst fencing is often an overlooked part of the garden area, it can massively improve the aesthetic appeal, as well as improving the security and privacy of your property. If you’re looking to replace your old fencing, or get some new, then you’ve probably come across composite fencing. In this article we will explore what composite fencing is and give an assessment of the pros and cons.

What is composite fencing?

Composite fencing panels are made using a blend of wood fibre and plastic, allowing the panels to maintain the look of wood fence panels, whilst also maintaining the benefits of plastic.

What are the pros and cons of composite fencing?

Pros

  • Composite fence panels are very strong and durable. This means that it will last for much longer, as well as being able to withstand extreme weather conditions.
  • Splinter proof. A common issue with timber fence panels is that as they age, they also begin to splinter; this ruins the aesthetic appeal. However, due to them being manufactured using a blend of wood and plastic, composite fencing does not splinter.
  • Composite fencing is very aesthetically appealing. It is available in a variety of colours, from less natural colours to more natural colours, with natural colours having much the same aesthetic as wooden fence panels, but with the benefits of composite.
  • Low maintenance costs. Composite fencing panels require very little maintenance, with them able to be cleaned with a jet-wash without causing damage, as well as having long-lasting colour so no need to re-paint.
  • Doesn’t rot. Another benefit of the blend of plastic and wood fibre that makes composite fencing is its resistance to rot. This means that your panels will stay in better condition for longer.

Cons

  • Composite fencing can be considered expensive. Some consider composite fencing to be expensive, which when compared to traditional wood panels it is. However, in the long run it can work out much more cost effective, with the panels lasting longer than traditional wood panels, requiring less maintenance and no repainting.
  • Can fade if you have it for a long time. One negative to composite fencing is that it tends to fade before breaking. However, in part this is because composite fencing lasts for so long and of course doesn’t need to be repainted.
